Venture across the Great Divide!

Join us as ECHR brings you a brand new tour, heading west on the Blue Mountaineer! Explore the delights of the Blue Mountains National Park and its mountain communities as we take you to Leura*, Katoomba, Medlow Bath and Lithgow*, hauled by diesel locomotives and featuring our beautifully restored and maintained carriages.

The Blue Mountaineer leaves Sydney Terminal and takes you through the west of Sydney across the Cumberland plain, before ascending the steep grades of the Blue Mountains. Our train treads the path of ‘The Heron’ – the former Central to Lithgow commuter service, and companion train to the famous ‘Fish’ and ‘Chips’. Winding through the valleys and along the ridgelines of the Great Dividing Range, witness the spectacular sandstone escarpments and canyons, and see the famous eucalyptus forests which give the area its name and distinctive appearance.

Let us take care of the driving as you sit back, relax, and enjoy the incredible scenery that led to the Blue Mountains area being added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Make your choice of lunch venue at one of the magical towns we stop at – fine dining options include the iconic Hydro Majestic in Medlow Bath, and the Carrington Hotel in Katoomba.

How to Book:
Seats should be reserved prior to travel – bookings can be made via the links at the top of this page or by calling 1300 65 3801. Last minute, cash-only sales of tickets may be available on the train prior to departure at Sydney Terminal, however these are subject to availability.

Trains operate on selected weekends – Interurban, Tourist, Premier and Lounge Class tickets are available, and compartments are available for booking. Seniors, Group and Family discounts are offered, and carriage hire can be arranged by enquiry.

There is a licensed buffet service available on the train (serving hot and cold refreshments/ snacks and alcoholic beverages), however we ask that you please bring cash along in small denominations to help our buffet team, as EFTPOS facilities are very intermittent on most trips due to limited reception.
