Turn back time in historic Kandos

Come and join us for a nostalgic one-day rail tour to the historic branch line town of Kandos, situated at the edge of the spectacular Capertee Valley some 249km from Sydney. Enjoy and admire the panoramic views as the train crosses the Great Dividing Range, before joining the old Mudgee line at Wallerawang.

Sit back and enjoy the scenery as our train traverses the UNESCO World Heritage Blue Mountains before descending past the Zig Zag Railway into historic steel city of Lithgow and onwards to Wallerawang. Here we join the old Mudgee country branch line, venturing past Piper’s Flat, Portland, Ben Bullen, Clandulla and Charbon, and through the magnificent Capertee Valley, the largest canyon formation in the Southern Hemisphere.

Two hours are available in Kandos, and on arrival you will have the option to enjoy lunch on the platform kindly arranged by the Kandos Museum (~$15pp), before having time to wander around the historic township or visit the Kandos Museum to learn about the town’s origins in cement production. Alternatively you are welcome to enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the dining establishments in town, or even bring a picnic lunch – the choice is yours!

The next Kandos Explorer will run in October/November 2025.
